Writing and Narrative
-
Premise (a girl who falls in love with her spaceship), backstory (a large planet appears near the sun, and Earth becomes a satellite to it), story (stopping antagonist merging the planets), dialogue (with the setting as a context, it explores people changing in a failing relationship).
Design gameplay mechanics, and gameplay meta-goals (with whole team)
-
Goal of creating an immersive VR experience through tactile novelty with maintenance mechanics, reactive music, a singular encapsulated story, gameplay where the ship is flying up on a 20 degree angle to mirroring the player relaxed in a seat, beanbag, bed etc.
-
Balancing of movement, shooting and maintenance mechanics.
-
Multiple uses for each maintenance tool in game.
-
As game progresses ship becomes harder to 'keep together'.
-
Dialogue takes the form of radio interactions between protagonist and antagonist.
Game Audio
-
Writing music dynamic music and sounds (within Ableton), utilising FMOD within Unreal 4 so it is reactive to player's input.
Major Challenges:
-
Working remotely during Covid-19 and lockdown in Victoria.
Major Success:
-
The quality of the game with the limited time was great!
-
Team is talented and awesome!
-
It was an incredible project to facilitate learning VR development!
